A hunting bird is suddenly struck by a car. Its interrupted pursuit becomes an ominous sign of something larger.

Sinus I – Prologue (2013) marks the beginning of my animated comic series, combining drawn characters, handmade backgrounds and minimal animation.

The opening scene came to me while I was sitting in the passenger seat beside my partner. We were simply driving, and my mind began to wander. I imagined a bird of prey whose own hunt abruptly ends in a collision. That image became the starting point for Sinus.

I have always been fascinated by comics: how still images on a page can suggest movement, and how much happens in the spaces between panels. With Sinus, I wanted to explore that space through moving images. I’m drawn to the point where a recognisable story opens into atmosphere and abstraction, leaving room for the viewer’s own associations.

The project premiered at a media festival in Casablanca and went on to screen at various other festivals. Its world was later developed further in Sinus II – The Memory Machine.
